The Musician's Daughter, by Susanne DunlapYoung Adult, 2008
Teresa Maria's father is brought home, murdered. His priceless violin stolen from him, he's left a family almost penniless. Teresa finds work as Kappelmeister Haydn's copiest, all the while trying to figure out what happened to her father and his violin. Slowly she is pulled into a world of gypsies, blackmail, and facades.
This book was written in such a passive voice that even the most action-packed scenes seem low-key. However, the plot is enjoyable, and the characters of Teresa and Haydn are well done. The romance was so tame you almost miss it, and the ending isn't quite what you wanted even though it's completely realistic. However, I still enjoyed it, and grade it a B-.
