Halloween Giveaway!

Sorry it took awhile to get this up, but it was a debate as far as what to give away. You have 3 choices.

First, my all-time favorite Halloween book, it's also up there in favorite picture books:

Boris and Bella, by Carolyn Crimi - this is the story about very tidy Boris and very messy Bella. Could they ever learn to stand each other?

Oh...I think so... :)
This is a paperback, purchased brand new.

Second, Lois Duncan scared teenagers with her teen horror books in the 80s, that fortunately weren't nearly as scary as they appeared. Up for grabs is a whole pack:

Down a Dark Hall
Five Were Missing

Don't Look Behind You, although the cover I have is similar to Down a Dark Hall - more modern.

And Summer of Fear. Included also, is a second copy of Summer of Fear that's a discarded library hardback, signed by Lois Duncan. It's still in decent shape, but you'll have to take the library barcode sticker off yourself.
That's a total of 5 books. The other four are all paperback, and in decent shape, although Five Were Missing is a very old copy and is pretty beatup, but definitely still readable.Update: Added 10/12/09 - also included in the Lois Duncan pack is a copy of I Know What You Did Last Summer. It's an old paperback copy, not with this cover, but in decent shape.

And lastly, I'm not sure how popular this one will be, but I thought I'd put it up for grabs anyways - if no one shows interest, we'll just quietly set it aside... :)

The Flight of the Falcon, by Daphne Du Maurier. This is a hardback copy with the same cover, and the book itself is in great shape. For those of you trying to remember, yes this is the same author that wrote Rebecca (also a movie), for which she is very well known and is put on almost all list of classics. The Flight of the Falcon is one of her later works, and isn't as abnormally weird as some of her other works, instead revolving more around a mystery like the one in Rebecca. A synposis is available to read here. IF the person who wins would prefer, we also have a copy of The House on the Strand, but the cover is pretty beat up. It is, however, her second most popular book, and we could send that one instead.

Update: 10/12/09 - also included with whichever Du Maurier book that you pick is a copy of her Jamaica Inn, pb as pictured here.

The Rules:
First, you have to comment. Duh. But, please list in there:
a) your email or a way to contact you
b) your choice of book - either Boris and Bella, the Lois Duncan pack, or whichever you prefer of the Daphne Du Maurier books (or the fourth option, see below)
c) your favorite Halloween book or similar

No extra entries for anything, but if you do I'll be grateful. :) However, if there are more than 25 individual entries by the end, then I'll add a fourth option: an Agatha Christie, which would either be the Man in the Brown Suit (a favorite) or her short stories collection that includes The Witness for the Prosecution. Both are excellent, and they would both be paperbacks.
Included in all of the packages will be Halloween candy - particularly in Boris and Bella. Let me know also if these are a gift and I can arrange to make it look more 'gifty'.
I apologize, but this is for US only this time. Contest ends Oct. 25 so I can get it to you (hopefully, but no guarantee) by Oct. 31.

That's it! Any questions, please comment, or email me.

Ugh...how am I supposed to decide which one of these to enter? I suppose I'll go with Du Maurier. I loved Rebecca.

My favorite Halloween books are some good ole Edgar Allen Poe tales, or Lois Ehlert's new children's book, Boo To You!

Thanks!

You know my email,I'm not into horror books but "The House on the Strand" (since I've never read anything by her),and (remember, I don't read horror books so these are laughable for halloween) the "Fablehaven" series and "The Dresden Files" are my favorite from the darker side. Both are 'A' reads.

What a fun contest..it's tough to choose. I would like to win the Lois Duncan books the most, or maybe give The Flight of the Falcon a chance.
One of my all time faves for this time of year is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It's been scaring us for years, what a classic.
Thanks.

I would pick Boris and Bella if I were to win. I would like to recommend a few new Halloween picture books. "Druscilla's Halloween" by Sally M. Walker and "Where's My Mummy" by Carolyn Crimi. Also, Jenny could you put a link to my book review blog on your sidebar? I know it's not as good as yours, but I would love to get some people to actually see mine:)

Boris and Bella, by Carolyn Crimi for us. I don't think my daughter would appreciate Du Maurier just yet, and I've read all her books.

My kids favorite Halloween book at the moment: Ten Timid Ghosts by Jennifer O'Connell

I would love to be entered for Boris and Bella. It looks so cute.

I do not really have a favorite Halloween book, but I do love any books that include that paranormal aspect. I love reading about ghosts, vampires, and all that.

Boris and Bella looks great, I'd love to win that one :-)

Right now my kids and I are really enjoying The Big Pumpkin, Ten Timid Ghosts and Max and Ruby goes Trick or Treating, oh, and the Witches Supermarket :-) We read the same books every year and add a book each year if we can -- it's tradition :-)

I would love to read Jamaica Inn. I don't have a fave Halloween book, but I just read a Dean Koontz book that was spooky enough for the season.
