Congratulations to the winners of our giveaway:
Jessica Secret won The Hunger Games
Sheere won Double Identity

I've sent an email to both of you and expect to hear back with your mailing addresses by Monday, Oct. 5. Check your spam box if you can't find it. If they change their mind or don't answer at all, then I'll pick new names on Monday.

On to our Failed to Finish books. I had two in a row last weekend, and was incredibly frustrated, particularly with this first one:

The Demon's Lexicon, by Sarah Brennan
Young Adult, 2009

I was completely excited for this book, and checked it out of the library only to immediately start it. The cover included amazing reviews from authors like Scott Westerfeld - seasoned scifi/fantasy young adult authors that had both helped and reviewed Brennan's debut novel.
I was completely disappointed.
The writing was very low-key despite the intensity of the plot, and was very choppy in some places. The characters....oh man they drove me nuts. Both acted like children, which as teenagers I suppose they still are. I guess I expect a little more out of teenagers with huge responsibility like these two did. All of this was enough to distract me from the plot however fun it might have been, and I quit after about 3 or 4 chapters.

Entrapment, by Michael Spooner
Young Adult, 2009

This is supposed to be a high school drama written entirely in chat. It was so completely different from The Demon's Lexicon, that I decided to give it a shot. First off, the chat drove me nuts after 2 pages. Second, everything these girls were talking about seemed so shallow, that I couldn't bring myself to read any more. Plus, there was no set plot as far as I could tell.

Sorry for the bad reviews, but don't worry, I have a decent one coming up.
