Academy 7. by Anne OsterlundYoung Adult, 2009
Aerin Renning is a fugitive, Dane Madousin is a top-of-the-social-tower rebel. Both get into the exclusive Academy 7 and find they have more in common than they thought - and more in common than they're supposed to know.
This is a classic "Don't judge a book by it's cover". When I first saw the cover I thought it was another Gossip Girl knockoff, and wasn't interested. Then I saw the author's name and remembered she'd written Aurelia, which I thought was a decent read. So, I checked it out of the library, and on the inside flap is: "If you like this book, you'd be interested in these..." - most of them I'd read, and all of them I'd liked a lot, so I decided to give it a shot. Lo and behold...it's a SCI FI?! So, heads up, that ship in the beginning...yep, that's a space ship. It completely threw me off, but once I gained my balance, I kept going. At first it was an interesting idea, but there was a complete lack of substance in the plot. I felt it was going no where, and the climax fell a far cry from where it should have. Graded a C+.
